John Bauer admits to loving Neil Diamond....

What will you admit to?  Joan Downham is the volunteer hostess with the mostest today - playing all vinyl with a a lineup of Neil Diamond, Sonny & Cher, Fats Domino, Led Zeppelin, Rosie Flores and who knows what else.

Do you have a guilty pleasure?  Neil Diamond?  Captain and Tenille?  Tom Jones?  Hall and Oates?  this is your time to admit what you sing along to!

It's all vinyl today too - what the first record you ever bought?

Joan "Tunes" Downham On the River

Joan is playing music this morning, "I'm going to do some old vinyl and I'm in sort of an accordion mood." Streaming at http://www.kaxe.org.  She is holding her white vinyl version of Robert Gordan's "Rock Billy Boogie."

¡Happy Cinco de Mayo!

The unlikely victory of the Mexican army over French forces on May 5th, 1862 started the tradition of celebrating Mexican heritage and pride. Joan "Tunes" Downham is ready to provide the bandas, marimbas, romantica and polka (even in Spanish, a polka is still 'polka' :p). "Most of the music I'm playing I actually picked up while in Mexico," Joan said in her shoes that were made in San Miguel de Allende. "I bought them for the box, which has a beautiful picture of the church." That's right, she basically bought a $40 box! Tune in and enjoy our Cinco De Mayo special with Joan on 91.7 KAXE.

It's What We Do

A true mix of music is programmed by local volunteers every day On the River on KAXE, and today we're joined by Joan Downham from Boy River and she brought along a stack of vinyl. "I'll be celebrating Black History Month with the tunes this morning," Joan said as she carried in a KAXE Bag that must have weighted 50lbs. In this picture she's got a copy of the Detroit Emerald's "I'm In Love With You." Real people come in from our Northern MN community and share music that they're passionate about, and it doesn't get any better than that! It's what we do. (Pssst...this would be a GREAT TIME to pledge early for our Fundspiel Fundraiser - 800-662-5799).
